Bloomberg reports orange-juice futures rose to a 16- year high on speculation that smaller orange crops in Brazil and Florida, the world's largest growers, will force processors such as Coca-Cola Co. to compete for dwindling supplies.
Florida is predicted to produce 44 percent less oranges in 2007 than it did in 2004, After two years of hurricane damage and disease, the U.S. has said. Orange-juice futures have jumped 68 percent in the past year.
