Education: South Africa consider maternity leave for schoolgirls

Education authorities in South Africa are considering making maternity leave available to schoolgirls. The suggestion that was made by a delegation at a Teenage Pregnancy Summit held in Pietermaritzburg, attended by various teacher unions, religious leaders, education delegates as well as members of the Department of Education.

Support groups and teacher unions have backed the proposal saying pregnancy was often the result of rape and abuse.
