Malaysia is considering a massive $2.5 billion project linking a power station on Borneo island to the mainland using undersea cables, a senior minister has said.
Lim Keng Yaik, energy minister said that if approved, it could transport up to 5,000 kilowatts of electricity to the Malaysian peninsula from the controversial hydro-power generation plant in Bakun, in the eastern Sarawak state.
"We will seek approval from the prime minister (Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) to invest nine billion ringgit on the cables," he was quoted as saying by Bernama news agency.
