Goodnight from Sydney

Tonight's photo: Explained below

Sunday was a great day for me because it was the first time in years I have been able to walk so far.

The photo tonight was taken more or less at the start of my walk - at that stage I had another six hours ahead of me!

The photo was taken at the southern side of the Harbour Bridge, and overlooks Circular Quay, the ferry terminals and the overseas passenger terminal, (the chequered building, bottom left of the photo).

The AMP building near the top right hand corner is of special architectural interest because it was Sydney's first high-rise building to take advantage of the lifting of the 46m (150ft) height limit which was enforced until 1957.

The AMP building took the "tallest in Australia title" from Melbourne's 84m/20storey ICI House, (now Orica House) built in 1958, and held the title as the country's tallest skyscraper until 1965

Just to the left of the AMP building is a block of apartments - a one-time favourite residence of celebrities including Nicole Kidman. The last few years however, it's prestige value has been overtaken by what is affectionately known as "The Toaster," (just out of shot on the left hand side of the photo) and a complex known as Finger Wharf, where Russel Crowe has a $14 million apartment.

Below the AMP building is the monstrosity known as the Cahill Expressway, (travelling off to the left). It's one saving grace is that you can walk along it and take the opportunity to take in some breathtaking views, (which I did!).

More tomorrow.

Wherever you may be - be safe!
