Latin America: Panama calls for Puerto Rican independence

Panama's President Martin Torrijos, has said that Latin America has the obligation to encourage a dialogue to obtain the independence of Puerto Rico, considering that in the 21st century "no form of colonialism can be justified".

"For Latin Americans, to help in the definitive correction of this anomaly must be a continental priority,", he stated.

Political Parties of Latin America and the Caribbean have agreed to establish the Permanent Work Committee which aims to work towards the independence of Puerto Rico.

The document was approved unanimously within the framework of the congress, supported by the Socialist International and the Permanent Conference of Political Parties of Latin America and the Caribbean.
