Oil and Gas: Uganda to go it alone

President Yoweri Museveni has said that Uganda will develop the vast petroleum resources being discovered in Bunyoro without external assistance.

Museveni who was yesterday addressing the closing session of the European Development days in Heysel, Brussels, blamed the current power shortage in Uganda on misadvise from development partners.

"One of the biggest challenges African freedom fighters have faced in the struggle to identify and deal with these bottlenecks has been external meddling in decision-making, even after independence. Of course we are slowly defeating this but it has already cost us a lot."

New Vision reports that although his 20 minute speech was double the allotted time, his speech was warmly applauded by a 1,000 strong audience.
