Transport: Kazakhstan planning shortest land route between China and Europe

Kazakhstan is planning a highway to carry freight from Chinese manufacturers to European markets.

The 8,998 kilometer (5,591 mile) road from China would cross 3,200 kilometers of Kazakh territory, cross Russia via its Tatarstan republic, and then in to Europe. The announcement came from the Kazakh Prime Minister's press service. The new highway would be the shortest land route between China and Europe.

The road has been provisionally named the Europe-Saint Petersburg-Moscow-Kazan-Orenburg-Kyzylorda-Shymkent-Khorgos route.

Nothing like having a snappy name is there?:)
