Human Resources: Haryana Cabinet to introduce five year - half-pay maternity leave

The Haryana government in India has moved to benefit women employees in government departments by extending maternity leave from six months to five years on half pay.

The Tribune reports that under the scheme, the employee would be allowed to extend maternity leave beyond six months.

"They will work for half a day at half the salary. They will be allowed from one to five years' half-day, half-pay leave, depending on their need. They will also be allowed to choose their work hours,"said Mr Prem Prashant, Chief Secretary, Haryana.

The remaining half of their salary will be used to employ staff on a contract basis.
