Food Industry: Mexico to slash tariffs to combat rising price of tortillas

To combat the rising price of tortillas, the Mexican economy minister, Eduardo Sojo, has said the government would end tariffs on hundreds of thousands of tons of corn imports to help keep them affordable.

Reuters reports that corn prices have been driven partly by high demand in the United States for ethanol fuel, and also alleged speculation and hoarding by unscrupulous traders.
