Tonight's photo: Sydney tower, taken from the Lane Cove river. Not sure how far away I was, but it is a lot closer with a 12x zoom than walking it!
Middle age is a funny thing. It's the age when you suddenly realise that the songs you regard as "classic" "iconic" and "representative of an era" are in fact 30 -40 years old. If that wasn't bad enough, if I think back to 1970 and use the same sort of time frame, it's the equivalent of liking a 1940 number! Thirty years seemed a lot longer and more old fashioned in those days!
Another thought. Had she lived, on Jan 19 Janis Joplin would be 64.
I don't know about you, but the thought that for the last four years, Janis Joplin would have been eligible for a New South Wales Seniors Card, and been able to travel around on buses all day for $2:50, is pretty scary stuff. Considering our buses are all Mercedes, that's quite an ironic thought.
Yes I know - it's very unlikely that Janis Joplin would hop on a 536 bus to do her shopping in Coles supermarket, but it's the symbolism that counts. Mind you, when the checkout girl told her how much her groceries came to, I wouldn't blame her for bursting into, "Take it! Take another little piece of my heart now, baby".
While we are at it, is it really necessary for insurance companies to rub it in by using footage of Woodstock, to promote seniors insurance! But wait - there's more. Consider this well meaning invitation from the Dept of Ageing, Disability and Home Care -
"NSW Seniors Card welcomes baby boomers"
Makes me want to throw my platform boots at someone!
Wherever you may be - be safe!
