European Commission: EC tells Poland to get its finances in order

The European Commission has told Poland to step up actions to bring its public finances in line with EU rules, projecting that Warsaw was likely to miss an EU deficit target.

The European Union's executive arm, which polices members public finances, said that although the Polish public accounts were benefiting from strong economic growth, more needed to be done to meet an EU deficit limit this year.

The EU's Stability and Growth Pact, dictates that members are required to keep their public deficits to three percent and stick to plans to meet the target when they miss it.
