Bolivian President Evo Morales, has signed a deal with leaders of mining cooperatives ending two days of protests by rebel miners over government plans to significantly increase mining taxes.
The agreement came a day after thousands of helmet-wearing miners caused chaos in La Paz, in a rally during which they tossed dynamite sticks around and clashed with police and passers-by.
Morales claimed the agreement as a reconciliation with the mining cooperatives after they had pledged to wage war to his plans to shake up the mining sector.
