Women's Issues: Mexico introduces domestic violence legislation

Mexican President Felipe Calderon has announced the publication of legislation that obligates both federal and local authorities to prevent, punish and eradicate violence against women. He promised to be "relentless" in his fight against gender-related abuse.

Domestic violence and other violence against women already was included in many city and state laws around the country, but this is the first time that it is being recognized at the national level.
