There are a number of ways of looking at every situation, which is why I recently made an attempt at changing the name of this blog to "New Perspectives". Yesterday afternoon a duck and a river, reinforced this concept for me.
I was sitting on a bench at a nice little look-out point I recently discovered on the banks of the Lane Cove river. I gazed at the water and saw a duck making his way along the river. Ahead of him lay Sydney Harbour.
I sat and watched and the thought occurred to me that in theory, that duck was on the beginning of a journey to - anywhere he wanted. The river leads to Sydney Harbour which in turn leads out of what is known as, "The Heads" and into the ocean. On the other side of that ocean is west coast USA.
I realised that although there is the little matter of a few thousand miles between myself and my fiancee in Arizona, right on my doorstep is a direct link to her.
So from now on I will look at the river with a new perspective - it is not just a river - it is a link between now and my future.
Incidentally, if anyone on the west coast happens to see a foreign looking duck waddling ashore, please don't put it in the fridge!
