After twenty-nine years and the involvement of over 100 linguists, the Bible has been translated into an Aboriginal language - Kriol.The project involved native Kriol speakers led by the Rev. Canon Gumbuli Wurrumara and specialists from the society for Australian Indigenous Languages The translation was a joint project of The Bible Society, Lutheran Bible Translators, The Church Missionary Society, the Anglican church, Wycliffe Bible Translators and the Australian Society of Indigenous Languages.
Kriol developed out of the contact between European settlers and the indigenous people in the northern regions of Australia and has many similarities with English.
With no disrespect intended towards either Christians or indigenous communities, my favourite translation is the word 'Christian' which in Kriol is 'Kristjanmob'
