Iran Broadcasting reports that Energy Minister Parviz Fattah and Tajik Energy and Industry Minister Sherali Gulov signed an agreement Saturday to establish a joint institute for water study in Tajikistan.
The two sides also agreed on shortening the scheduled time for commissioning "Sangtoudeh 2" powerplant in Tajikistan.
Sangtoudeh 2 which is being built by an Iranian contractor was scheduled to be commissioned in the year 2012, but because of Tajikistan problems in electricity sector and upon their request, the project will be commissioned by the year 2010.
The 220 mega-watt power plant is being built in an area located 110 kilometers southeast of Dushanbe, capital of Tajikistan, at the expense of 230 million dollars.
