I love "train stories" so the news that Turkmenistan's President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, has inaugurated construction work on a new 900-kilometer railway line linking Iran with Russia across Central Asia, caught my eye.
Dow Jones newswire quotes Berdymukhamedov as saying, "This line will enable goods to be transported more cheaply between Russian and Central Asia and on to Europe," he said at Bereket, near the Iranian border.
Turkmenistan's railway ministry reports the new line will have an annual capacity of between 10 and 12 million metric tons of freight when it opens in four years.
