Energy: Albanians take to the streets

Thousands of opposition supporters staged a peaceful protested in the Albanian capital yesterday against Albania's ongoing power crisis.

A lack of rain powering hydroelectric plants, combined with poor management, have caused almost daily power outages in Albania. Opposition parties accuse the government of incompetent energy policies.

They also claim the government has not done enough to fight poverty and unemployment, and allege extensive corruption.
