Women's Issues: Turkmenistan adopts law guaranteeing rights for women

Turkmenistan has adopted a law on state equality guarantees for women’s rights.
Turkmenistan signed the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women in 1996, and according to sources, the new legislation fully conforms to the norms of the international law.

Women will enjoy equal rights in political, economic, social and cultural spheres.

Turkmenistan has two women in government – the parliamentary speaker and the deputy prime minister.
