Education: Karzai - 300,000 kept out of school by Taliban

Afghanistan's, President Hamid Karzai has told parliamentarians that the Taliban is keeping about 300,000 children from school in southern Afghanistan.

Speaking at the opening of a new legislative session Monday, he said this compared with 200,000 forced out of schools due to Taliban unrest last year.
Since 2005, it is claimed more than 110 teachers, students and other education workers have been killed in attacks linked to the Taliban, most in southern Afghanistan.
