Human Resources: Malaysian official denies ban on recruitment of workers from India and Bangladesh

Malaysia has denied reports that the country is planning to suspend the recruitment of workers from India and Bangladesh.

Works Minister S Samy Vellu, told a press conference, "I just spoke to my prime minister ... There is no truth in the statement released by Reuters ... It’s not true means everything is status quo" adding "Indian workers are already there. When it is needed, they are welcome.”

The announcement followed earlier reports claiming Malaysia has suspended the recruitment of workers from India and Bangladesh, reported to be linked to of its ethnic Indians.

Around 7% of Malaysia’s 26mn people are ethnic Indians, whose forefathers were brought over as labourers by British colonial rulers.
