Industrial Relations: Unions in Guinea call for general strike to protest sacking of minister

Unions in Guinea have called for a general strike on January 10, to protest the sacking of a minister was dismissed by Guinea's President Lansana Conte. Unions claim the dismissal violates a power-sharing deal.

The dismissal of the minister - an ally of the Prime Minister Lansana Kouyate, sparked clashes between police and demonstrators.

Clashes broke out between police and demonstrators in the capital, Conakry, on Friday after Lansana Conte dismissed a minister allied to Lansana Kouyate, the prime minister.
