I watched an interesting program last night called 'Spooks'. Of course I fully realise that it was pure fiction and things like that just don't happen in real life.
It was about a young British couple - "Britain's favourite couple" or "Dream Couple." Their baby son was snatched from his cradle by kidnappers and MI5 was called in to show Joe Public, that everything possible is being done to look for the child. During the course of the program one of the agents remarked, "Don't these people use baby sitters?"
Of course it was facilitated by the fact that the couple who enjoyed swinging parties for the rich, had connections in the British government. Just to show you how far fetched the episode was, the Downing Street Press Office was also involved. Ludicrous isn't it!
If you think the story line so far is unbelievable - guess what happens next. It turns out the mum killed the baby and the kidnapping was staged using hired nasties who apparently took the deceased boy through a window.
The press gleefully pushed the line of abduction and strongly hinted the culprits would never be found. The couple appeared on the covers of glossy magazines and the front pages of tabloids as grieving parents.
I had to laugh when the head of MI5 was told "the whole of Britain is awash with emotion over the fate of the child. It must end well - or seem to end well for the Sunday papers". See - I told you it was ludicrous didn't I. As if anything like that would happen in real life!
We all know Governments and media just don't do that sort of thing do they?
At least I was able to watch it without any one trying to get it stopped.
