Corruption: Bulgaria to close border duty-free shops and gas stations

In a bid to cut corruption and crime, Bulgaria is to close duty-free shops and gas stations at the country's land borders the government announced Wednesday.

The government’s official press release says, "With this decision the government will reject even the slightest doubts the European commission has about our country, that have surfaced in it’s recent report for Bulgaria’s progress".

Duty-free shops on the way out of Bulgaria on public airports and ports will continue to function but will only service customers who are heading for non-EU countries.
