EU: Slovakia approves Lisbon Treaty

The Slovak Parliament yesterday approved the Lisbon treaty reforming the EU rules of operation.

In the 150-seat parliament, 103 deputies supported the treaty, five voted against it and one abstained from the vote, according to local media reports.

Congratulating Slovakia on this occasion, EC President Jose Barroso said he appreciated the support the treaty has received from all over the Slovak political spectrum and also the fact that the Slovak parliament managed to approve the treaty in the right time.

The treaty yet needs to be signed by Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic, who has repeatedly expressed support for it.
