Germany: Germany has severe shortage of judges

Germany has a severe shortage of around 4,000 judges and public prosecutors, according to the daily Rheinische Post newspaper who cited the head of the German Judges' Federation Christoph Frank. Frank blamed the shortage on lack of funding.

He added that many court cases were taking a longer time to deal with because of the insufficient numbers of judges and prosecutors. He noted that the backlog of court cases has led to more out-of-court settlements.
