Indonesia has bowed to Chinese pressure and will significantly shorten its leg of the Olympic torch relay.
The relay, scheduled for April 22, was originally planned to follow a 15-kilometre (10-mile) course, passing down a main street in the capital, Jakarta.
It will now only occur in the vicinity of the city's main sports stadium, said Sumohadi Marsis, the head of the organizing committee.
"China's Olympic committee through its embassy here asked me to shorten the torch relay in Jakarta because of protests against the Chinese government on Tibetan issues in several countries," he said. "We have agreed to do that."
