Counterfeiting: Fake gas station discovered in a EU country

At the Conference on Counterfeiting and Piracy organized by the European Commission in Brussels yesterday was announced that a fake gas station has been discovered in a EU member from Eastern Europe.

The participants announced that the time when only expensive brands were counterfeited is over and nowadays all kinds of commodities are subject of counterfeit. The latest data shows that the counterfeit market has almost doubled over the last year, and has reached USD 200 billion.

The European Commissioner for Internal Market and Services – Charlie McCreevy, said that despite the efforts from Beijing, China still remains the Mecca of counterfeiting and piracy.
