In a statement released Saturday, the ministry said Russia welcomes the nuclear declaration of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the demolition of a cooling tower at the Yongbyon nuclear complex, as well as the U.S. pledge to remove the DPRK from its list of states sponsoring terrorism and lift some sanctions against the country.
The steps are consistent with the measures negotiated by the six parties to fulfil the September 2005 Joint Statement. It means real progress has been made in the six-party talks, it said, adding that Russia is ready to participate in the six-party talks and the upcoming meeting of top negotiators, so as to achieve the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
