South Ossetia: Georgian troops surrender to Ossetians in Tskhinvali – Russian defense ministry

“Georgian troops are giving in their positions in Tskhinvali, some of them surrender. At present time, there is an intensive fighting near the village of Nikozi,” Assistant Commander of Collective Peacekeeping Forces in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone Vladimir Ivanov told reporters on Saturday. According to him, Georgian troops, who were at their positions in Tskhinvali, are now surrendering to the South Ossetian side and leave positions they were taking before.

As a statement of the Russian defense ministry press office informs, Ivanov said that a battalion tactical group of the 58th Army of the Russian Armed Forces has cleared the city of Georgian motorized infantry, a fighting is taking place near the village of Nikozi. “Bombarding points are being destroyed, the fire is opened only against positions of the Georgian defense ministry. The Georgian troops continue bombarding the South Ossetian capital from large-caliber weapons, howitzers, tanks and Grad multiple launch rocket systems,” he said.
