Economy: Russia halts trading

Russia's financial regulators halted trading of shares on the countries two main markets before it could begin on Tuesday.

Authorities blocked both the RTS and the MICEX from opening for business, just as Asian markets closed down between three and five per cent. Shortly afterwards, European markets dipped on opening.

A statement by the RTS said: "In accordance with an order from the Federal Service for Financial Markets, trading on the RTS stock market has been suspended,"
