"The thoughts and prayers of the entire Congress, and indeed all Americans, are with the people who live in areas in the path of Hurricane Ike.
"In times like these, the quick action taken by government officials and local residents to minimize the loss of life is critical. Neighbors rely upon neighbors, families open their homes to those in need, and good Samaritans come to the aid of many.
"We will do everything in our power to ensure that the federal government fully mobilizes its emergency response resources and comes to the immediate aid of residents in the affected areas. We will work with all levels of governments to assess any damage and the House of Representatives stands ready to act on making available the resources that are needed to
all those who suffer from the cruel blow of Hurricane Ike."
