According to the Armenian Defence Ministry, about 1,100 military from 21 countries, including seven NATO countries, 12 participants in the Partnership for Peace programme as well as from some other partner states, take part in the exercises. The United Arab Emirates, which participates in the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative, will also take part in the exercises.
The aim of the exercises, which will continue till October 21, is to improve cooperation between the forces of NATO and other countries. Its scenario is based on a plan of actions to react to crises, carried out under the leadership of NATO in line with a U.N. mandate.
