Homeless: U.S. Conference of Mayors to release 2008 Hunger and Homelessness Survey

In the midst of astruggling national economy and a growing demand for emergency services, The U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) will release results of its 2008 Hunger and Homelessness Report at a Press Conference on Friday, December 12 during the 4th Annual Miami Cares Day in Miami, FL.

The survey will include results from twenty-five of America's major cities (listed below) that highlight causes of hunger and homelessness in metropolitan centers in the United States. For the past 22 years, The Conference of Mayors has reported on the shortage of emergency services -- food, shelter, medical care, income assistance and energy assistance -- in our nation's cities.

Miami Cares Day is observed in an effort to provide services to hundreds of homeless individuals with the goal of engaging them in the continuum of care and helping eliminate chronic homelessness in the city. In one day, volunteers, community sponsors and partners join in efforts and expertise to assist these individuals that are often forgotten.

The U.S. Conference of Mayors is the official nonpartisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or more. There are 1,139 such cities in the country today, each represented in the Conference by its chief elected official, the Mayor.
