Albania: Democrats triumphant in Albanian elections

FOCUS Information Agency - According to the preliminary results the Albania's ruling Democrats is to win the parliamentary elections.

According to exit polls Prime Minister Sali Berisha‘s Democratic Party and its rightist coalition partners will gain parliamentary majority - 76 seats from the total 140. The Socialists led by Edi Rama, mayor of the capital Tirana are after them with about 60 seats in the Parliament.

According to initial unofficial data the election turnout was 52% from the total of 3,1 million eligible people with rights to vote. The IPR Marketing agency Zogby International gave Berisha and his party a safe lead. Zorby’s results indicated 69 seats for the Democrats.

The seventh parliamentary elections in Albania could be assessed as the most democratic elections after the communist era and inspire of the irregularities.
