Macedonia: Time for more intensive seeking for solution on name

FOCUS Information Agency - Macedonia and Greece are ready to find a solution for the dispute on the name, the UN mediator Matthew Nimetz told a press conference on Monday, cited by Makfax.

He added that it is time to seek more intensively for a solution that would contribute to greater security in the region and will enable membership of Macedonia in NATO and the European Union.

On Monday, Nimetz discussed with the Macedonian and Greek negotiators Zoran Jolevski and Adamantios Vassilakis the areas that had been impeding the negotiating process thus far.
Macedonian negotiator Zoran Jolevski said that Macedonia is ready for solution, but not for one that would endanger the national dignity and the identity of the nation.

In the period 6 to 9 July, Nimetz will pay visits to Skopje and Athens to get the authorities familiarized with a possible formulation of the name and the scope of its use as well as with the mechanisms that would lead to formal closure of the issue in the United Nations, in case a final solution is reached.

The media reported that in the previous period, Nimetz was in touch with the representatives of the both sides, but also with representatives of EU and Sweden, the next holder of the presidency over the Union.
