According to The Mirror, one of the flagships of Britain's notorious gutter press, Kate and Gerry McCann are suing the former police chief for £1million.
A 36-page writ "lays bare in painful detail how Gonçalo Amaral's accusations left them "totally destroyed" and caused them irreparable' damage" adding, "the couple both suffer from permanent anxiety, insomnia, lack of appetite and irritability". It also says Kate McCann, star of the Oprah Winfrey Show and self-appointed advisor to the EU on missing children, is "in a deep and serious depression".
In light of the ever changing testimony of the Tapas Nine, perhaps they should throw in amnesia as well.
As for being irritable, Gerry McCann is well known for being easily irritated as demonstrated by his advice to a fellow holiday maker at the start of the fateful holiday, to "F*** off", advice he was quite happy to give in front of his own and other children. A man of many faces is good old Gerry.
Yet at the time Madeleine disappeared without any shred of evidence pointing to an abduction, the McCanns are on public record (including Gerry McCann's own blog) as sleeping well, having dinner with a never ending stream of friends they collected from the airport, and jogging.
It appears they coped better with the loss of a beloved daughter they left crying the night before Madeleine became Brand Madeleine, than they cope with what Team McCann allege are untruths about their involvement - even though Amaral was in charge of the investigation. An investigation during which, Kate McCann, a now retired doctor, refused point blank to answer 48 questions put to her by investigating officers - an investigation marked by the McCann's unwillingness to cooperate with Portuguese authorities.
The McCanns are always quick to complain about the treatment they receive, and how the actions of others allegedly impact on their lives. Yet, they are not so quick to apologise to or compensate the many who have become innocent victims of Team McCann and their rag-tag army of dubious private investigators with no proven or demonstrated track record in locating missing persons.
Innocent mums, dads, nannies and children have been left traumatised by the bully boy tactics of unauthorised investigators, the British media and Team McCann, when they unwittingly found themselves the main suspects in Madeleine's mysterious disappearance. Their lives and privacy turned over on the flimsiest of "evidence" and statements by unreliable and dubious alleged eye-witnesses.
If the McCanns are successful, no doubt any compensation received will be put towards the fund of which they, family members and friends are directors, and used to pay for their latest Rent-A-Plod investigators, whose sole strategy seems to be based on a concept well known to British police, "Nab The Nearest Nutter".
There are many mysteries surrounding the events of May 3, 2007, but one thing is known and proven. On that night, as on every other night of their holiday - the McCann children all aged three and under, were left alone while mummy and daddy followed their nightly routine of spending quality bonding time with seven friends in a local bar.
As Madeleine’s name is on the writ, and they themselves made Madeleine a Ward of Court shortly after her alleged disappearance – perhaps they can sue themselves on Madeleine’s behalf? It would be the first positive thing they have done for their daughter during this obscene and bizarre masquerade.
