Drug Trafficking: Old Serbian trafficking routes active once more

FOCUS Information Agency - Recently Serbian police officers seized a huge amount of heroin and other drugs at the border checkpoints of Gradina, Presevo, as well as at the Smederevo and Buban Potok, while police authorities in the village of Stanevce near Presevo, detained 104 kilos of marihuana, arms and ammunitions, Serbian Politika newspaper writes on Monday.

This news points at some changes in the road of heroin, as well as for the disunity of the “family” and Albanian drug bosses, which according to Interpol, control 70% of the drug market in Europe.

The arrests led to nervousness and attempts to frighten the naughty and hesitant units. Experts also connect these events with the recent terrorist assaults against the gendarmerie in Lucani and the constant explosions in Presevo.

The sources for financing of terrorist groups are endangered, as it seems as if the old routes of the heroin traffic have been activated again. The corridors on the borderline between Serbia and Macedonia and then to Albania and Italy has been resumed, as well as the Adriatic routes though Montenegro and Croatia, aimed for Europe, as this direction also involves the routes from Turkey, through Bulgaria and Serbia.
