Macedonia: Bombshell in Macedonian politics

FOCUS Information Agency - The oppositional Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM) announced sensational news on Thursday, and if the information is proved to be true it will shed new light on the resignation of Deputy Prime Minister Ivica Bocevski, Macedonian Utrinski Vesnik writes on Friday.

According to SDSM deputy chairman Gordan Georgiev, Bocevski used to have several secret meetings with Greek politicians. The meetings were held without the consent of Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski.

SDSM has information that in December 2008, Bocevski has met with Greece’s deputy foreign minister in Brussels. Soon after that there was another meeting between Bocevski and the state secretary of the Greek foreign ministry, while in July 2009, he met with a high-ranking diplomat from the Greek embassy in Washington, as the meeting was focused on the name dispute.

According to the newspaper, the first spark between Gruevski and Bocevski blazed when Bocevski, with Brussels’ mediation, managed to assure Greece not to block the money for a motorway but after that his efforts were “mined” by the sudden decision of the government to rename the Alexander the Great Airport.

The government still keeps silent about the Bocevski’s resignation. It seems as if he disappeared deep down in the earth. Probably he is still in the USA together with his family, Utrinski Vesnik writes.
