Sri Lanka: Sri Lanka and India join forces in massive rehabilitation and reconstruction program in the North

Sri Lanka and India signed an agreement on construction to undertake the rebuilding of public and private infrastructure, buildings and utilities under the massive rehabilitation and reconstruction program in the North, Uthuru Vasanthaya, issuing a press release, the Construction and Engineering Services Ministry said yesterday.

The agreement between the Ministry's construction sector arm ICTAD and India's Construction Industry Development Council was signed before Minister Rajitha Senaratne at the Ministry on Wednesday.

The Indian council is the national institute on building and construction based in New Delhi and will assist the local building and construction to make use of the latest technologies and assist in the mass scale construction of buildings and infrastructure in the North while contributing to the national economy, it said. The Minister said India and Sri Lanka enjoyed relations going as far back as 2,500 years and the friendly cooperation extended by India in the rehabilitation and reconstruction program of the North was appreciated by the Government and the people of Sri Lanka.
