Since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1977, bilateral relations in political, economic and cultural fields have been developing steadily, while official exchanges are increasing rapidly, Chinese Ambassador Yu Hongyang told The Jordan Times in a recent interview.
The Chinese envoy said his country will continue to provide economic assistance to Jordan despite the global financial crisis, stressing that the Kingdom is the top recipient of Chinese aid in Middle East and North Africa.
In 2008, trade exchange between China and Jordan stood at about $2 billion while during the first quarter of 2009 the volume of bilateral trade reached $360 million.
The envoy also referred to nuclear energy cooperation between China and Jordan, noting that "it is a new cooperative field, but it has made a rapid progress."
In August 2008, China and Jordan signed a nuclear cooperation agreement, paving the way for future collaboration on peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
