Bilateral Relations: Mexico, Uruguay sign strategic agreement

Xinhua - Mexico and Uruguay have signed a strategic agreement worth 500 million U.S. dollars in Uruguay's capital Montevideo on Friday, the Mexican president's office stated.

While Mexican President Felipe Calderon was visiting Uruguay's President Tabare Vazquez, both sides agreed to set up a cooperation fund of 500 million dollars and a Mexico-Uruguay Joint Cooperation Commission to administer it. Social development programs would be a priority.

The two presidents also committed themselves to working together on protecting and restoring cultural goods and fighting against illicit trafficking of stolen artifacts.

The two sides signed further cooperation pacts in the fields of science and technology, research on the Antarctic and teacher training.
