Bolivia: Morales calls on armed forces to defend the people

FOCUS Information Agency - Bolivian President Evo Morales Friday urged the Armed Forces to defend the people, the natural resources and territory integrity, Xinhua News Agency reports.

"The unity of the Bolivian People comes first," Morales said during the 184th anniversary of the Bolivian armed forces.

"Our armed forces must have its own doctrine, the armed forces must work for the people, defend the natural resources," Morales said during his speech in Oruro city.

Morales also said that the armed forces have a "constitutional, noble and sacred obligation to defend the integrity of the territory."

Morales said that during his administration the armed forces were able to buy two helicopters for the first time in 25 years, and have USD 30 million budget to buy ships for the canal to be built between Suarez Port and Busch Port.

There are further USD 15 million to buy planes and radars to fight drug trafficking in the country, Morales added.
