Gender Issues: South Africa - Zuma pats himself on the back for advancing gender equality

President Jacob Zuma has lauded his administration for advancing the cause of women in government and other fields, SABC news reported on Sunday.

The president said South Africa was currently in the top twenty countries in Africa and the world in terms of the most powerful businesswomen.

He said this showed that women had proved their worth in many fields contributing to the development of the country

However, Zuma acknowledged that more needs to be done for poor rural women.
