Car Industry: Peugeot Citroen eyes Mitsubishi

FOCUS Information Agency - French carmaker Peugeot Citroen is mulling an alliance with Japan's Mitsubishi Motors Corp, Reuters reports.

Philippe Varin, the new chief executive of PSA Peugeot Citroen is 'actively thinking about an alliance with Mitsubishi,' the paper said, without citing a specific source.

Reuters received an advanced copy of the article due to be published in La Tribune's Friday edition.

When asked to comment on the story, a PSA Peugeot Citroen spokesman said that to his knowledge 'there was nothing new,' adding 'I am not confirming anything.'

He said that Varin had previously said he wanted the group to become more global and that this could be achieved through internal and possibly external growth, industrial partnerships and possibly alliances with other carmakers.

PSA Peugeot Citroen and Mitsubishi already cooperate on electrical vehicles cars and also plan to jointly manufacture cars in Russia.
