Gas: Venezuela asks Turkmenistan to join gas OPEC

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has invited Turkmenistan to join a proposed global cartel of gas suppliers similar to OPEC.

Reuters reports Chavez asked Turkmen leader Kurbanguly Berdymukhamedov "Have you joined the gas Opec?"

The negative reply prompted Chavez to say, "Please join."

Turkmenistan used to sell most of its gas to Russia until an April row when Moscow demanded a review of supply terms.
