Angola: Former combatants to get assistance

I found this article interesting because last night on our excellent SBS free-to-air channel, I was watching an Angolan movie called "The Hero" where a long-serving soldier is discharged from the army after losing his leg in the Angolan war. Returning to Luanda, he finds opportunities hard to come by.

Government of Angola - The provincial first-secretary of the ruling MPLA party in Luanda, Bento Bento, Saturday in Luanda pledged that there are different projects for benefiting the ex-combatants, taking into account their contribution to the achievement of independence and peace in Angola.

The politician was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a political event held at the Provincial Committee's facilities of MPLA in Luanda, intended to hail the February 4 (beginning of national liberation struggle) and the promulgation of the Constitution.

According to him, as the country achieves development levels, the members belonging to different processes benefit from actions that can improve their lives.

The former combatants have been the target of attention by the Government, through the Ministries of Former Combatants, Assistance and Social Welfare and other sectors, emphasised the MPLA official".
