FOCUS Information Agency - Visiting Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin on Thursday voiced readiness to help Turkey build its first nuclear power plant, reported the semi-official Anatolia news agency, Xinhua informs.With Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz at his side, Sechin said at a press conference at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport that experts are about to finalize the feasibility works over the Turkish plan in April and that the conclusions would be satisfactory.
Stressing that Russia attaches great importance to the cooperation with Turkey, Sechin said the Turkish nuclear project " entails a close cooperation" between the two countries.
A consortium of Russia's Atomstroyexport and Inter RAO, together with Turkish company Park Teknik, have registered the sole bid to build the nuclear power plant at Akkuyu on Turkey's east Mediterranean coast.
Slated to eventually comprise four separate 1,200-megawatts units, the project is expected to help meet Turkey's rapidly growing power demand.
Referring to Turkey's Samsun-Ceyhan oil pipeline, Sechin said, "this project is one of the issues of priority. Both Turkey and Russia have established working groups."
The Samsun-Ceyhan pipeline that would carry oil from Black Sea ports to the Mediterranean would make an important contribution to protection of environment in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean, the Russian deputy prime minister said.
