Sudan: Egypt to help build dam

Source: Government of Egypt The Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation announced that the Egyptian committee will complete studies for the Egyptian projects estimated at $ 26.6 million that represent the Egyptian contribution to sustainable development programmes in Southern Sudan.

He said that the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation have sent a technical committee of experts and technicians to Southern Sudan to complete studies for the establishment of Wau Dam, which is the first dam to be established in the South.

The Dam will provide water and generate 8 MW-electricity in addition to establishing drinking water plant to serve the residents of the southern capital Wau and surrounding villages.

The Minister said that the group of Egyptian experts is currently conducting all the surveying works and forming the Geological spin-off survey for the dam area in addition of studying all the technical issues.

He said that they will start the economic and social studies of the effects of the proposed construction of the dam in addition to holding continuous meetings with officials of the Ministry of Irrigation and leaders of the Southern government to ensure fast performance.
