It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that I like to take photographs. Considering the links I have to my photoblogs, even a British journalist or UK private detectives could figure out the bleeding obvious - with a lot of help from bloggers of course.
Whether my photos are good or not is not for me to say - I don't even know myself. I just like taking them and if just one person likes what they see, then that is good enough for me. I certainly would not describe myself as a photographer or an artiste. However, other photographers do consider themselves artistes - and perhaps more importantly, so do the arty-fart society.
The other night I was watching an English language news program from Germany, it's "magazine" segment featured a photographer who specialized in obscure photos. Perhaps obscure is not quite the right word as they were all rather obvious - and simple. Extremely simple.
I have to admit, I was quite amused by patrons in a German art gallery where a collection of his work was being exhibited. No doubt highly educated and definitely attired in the latest creations churned out by the fashion houses of Europe, they stood in awe in front of one particular photograph. Champagne glass in one hand, chin strategically resting on the other to show they were appreciating the powerful, symbolic social message of the photograph, they nodded heads in agreement with fellow patrons - connoisseurs of the world of fine art.
I really wish I had thought of taking such a photograph myself. I too could be mixing in such company while raking in large sums of money. I could even wear one of those scarves around my neck and give society bimbos little pecks on the cheek as a prelude to, 'We simply must do lunch sometime daahling" and await the obligatory, "Oh absolutely".
I bet you would like to know what it was that so captivated their imagination and spawned a tsunami of admiration? I will tell you.
A clock with a dollar bill next to it, entitled "Time and Money".
It seems I have adopted the wrong hobby. Perhaps I should give up photography and become a painter instead. I even have a subject in mind. Just down the road from me is a load of blue poles.
But nah, it would never get much critical acclaim - people would say it's a load of pollocks.
Wherever you may be - be safe
